WOEMA Webinar-Intersectionality of LGTBQ+ issues in Occupational Health

OVERVIEW:

Led by Dr. Deborah Smith, OEM consultant to a major aerospace company and the senior living industry, this webinar seeks to highlight the unique health and wellness needs of LBTBQ+ individuals in the workplace including workplace job risks and challenges.  Topics will include learning how the LBGTQ+ community is generally defined and how Social Determinants of Health, Intersectionality, Marginalization, and Workplace Discrimination affect the LGBTQ+ population.  This webinar seeks to raise awareness on issues around medical care and coverage, medical documentation, post-offer pre-placement exams with an emphasis on urine drug screening, safe international travel for employees, and the use of appropriate pronouns and language.  The webinar will conclude with a question-and-answer session with our speaker. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  • Describe how the LBGTQ+ community is generally defined and how the Social Determinants of Health, Intersectionality, Marginalization, and Workplace Discrimination affect the LGBTQ+ population.
  • Articulate the unique health and wellness needs of LGBTQ+ individuals in the workplace, including access to medical care and coverage, medical documentation, and the use of appropriate pronouns and language. 
  • Develop programs to address the unique health and safety concerns faced by LGBTQ+ employees when traveling internationally for work, including pre-departure screening and counseling, safe travel recommendations, access to medical care, legal concerns, and requirements, and respecting cultural differences.

Physician, Nurses, Social Workers, Residents, and other members of the interprofessional team
