Highlights from AOHC in Anaheim

WOEMA, the largest component of American College of Occupational & Environmental Medicine (ACOEM), was well represented at the largest gathering of the American Occupational Health Conference (AOHC) to date with a record-breaking 1,500 attendees.

The strong presence of WOEMA past presidents was noticeable. The conference was co-chaired by Pam Hymel, MD, VP, Chief Medical Officer, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts and Constantine Dean Gean, MD, Regional Medical Director, Liberty Mutual Insurance. Scott Levy, MD Regional Medical Manager, Europe, Eurasia, Middle East & Africa for Chevron Products UK Limited, accepted the gavel to become ACOEM Speaker of the House of Delegates. Leslie Israel, DO, Medical Director, Occupational Health Services for Los Angeles Dept. of Water and Power, joined the ACOEM Board of Directors having recently been elected.  Paul Papanek, MD, Public Health Medical Officer, Cal/OSHA, was the recipient of ACOEM’s Health Achievement in Occupational Medicine Award. Bob Orford, MD, Mayo Clinic (now based in London), chaired WOEMA’s delegation at the House of Delegates.

WOEMA had the largest number of delegates and alternates in attendance at the House of Delegates meeting thanks to these WOEMA members: Robert Blink, MD, Rupali Das, MD, Anthony Biascan, MD, Stephen Levit, MD, Mona Khanna, MD, and Robert Orford, MD.  Alternates: Jerald Cook, MD, Derek Gagnon, MD, Chang Na, MD, Erik Won, DO, and David Caretto, MD.

More than 100 members and their guests attended the WOEMA networking reception at the Disneyland Hotel where current president Bernyce Peplowski, DO, who hails from Honolulu, extended a warm “Hawaiian” welcome to those in attendance and she thanked WOEMA members who are involved in leadership roles. She also recognized and congratulated WOEMA’s newest ACOEM Fellows: Rosalie Banasiak, MD, Jeremy Biggs, MD, Rajiv Das, MD, Gurinder Dhindsa, MD, Mason Harrell, MD, Marcia Isakari, MD, Geoffrey Jacoby, Paul Kim, MD, Amir Nicknam, MD, Marlene Sanchez, MD, and John Westhoff, MD.

Great showing and nice going WOEMA — congratulations to all!
